Dear Everyone,

I want to configure the HP 415 ink tank, but I forgot the administrator password.

I tried resetting this device to factory settings, and it asked for the administrator password.

I tried connecting to the network, and it asked for a custom printer password. A password was set.

I set up this device 3 years ago, and now I don't remember the password.

Can you please guide me on how to factory reset this device or reset the administrator password to the default?

Hi @Matasam

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like you're locked out of your HP Ink Tank 415 printer due to the forgotten administrator password. Since you've already attempted a factory reset but were prompted for the password, here are some steps you can try:

1. Reset via HP Smart App

  • Download and install HP Smart from the Microsoft Store or HP’s website.
  • Connect your printer via USB cable or Wi-Fi Direct.
  • Open HP Smart, click on your printer, and go to Advanced Settings.
  • Scroll down to Restore Defaults and select Restore Factory Defaults.
  • Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to restart.

2. Hard Reset Using Printer Buttons

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the Wi-Fi and Cancel buttons together.
  • While holding, turn on the printer and keep holding the buttons for 10-15 seconds.
  • Release the buttons when the printer starts blinking—this should reset it.

3. Reset via Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • If you can access the printer’s IP address, open a browser and enter the IP (e.g., 192.168.x.x).
  • Navigate to Settings > Security > Restore Factory Defaults.
  • Confirm the reset.

Let me know if you need help with any of these steps!
