HP OfficeJet 7612 Wide Format e-All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

hello.

I initialized my HP 7612 printer a few days ago and it got stuck on the “Setup Cartridge” step after initialization. The printer screen says “Use Setup Cartridge”, if there is any way to bypass this step, please let me know. I use this printer a lot and have not been able to use it for a few days. Please send me a message as well. ㅠㅠ

Hi @SpiralMan,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to have your HP OfficeJet 7612 stuck on the "Use Setup Cartridge" message. Unfortunately, bypassing this step isn't typically possible, as the printer requires setup cartridges to proceed with the initialization process. These cartridges are specifically designed to set up the printer with the correct ink levels and configuration.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Check the Setup Cartridges:

  • Ensure that the setup cartridges (which should have come with the printer) are properly installed. Sometimes, the printer can get stuck if the cartridges are not installed correctly or are defective.
  • If you no longer have the setup cartridges, you may need to purchase a set of genuine HP cartridges.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for at least 30 seconds. Plug it back in, then turn it on and check if the issue persists.

Try Installing Regular Cartridges:

  • If you have regular ink cartridges (not the setup ones), try inserting them and see if the printer detects them and bypasses the setup cartridge prompt.

Perform a Reset:

  • If the printer continues to display the “Use Setup Cartridge” message, you may need to perform a hard reset:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the electrical outlet.
    3. Wait 60 seconds, then plug the power cord back into the outlet and the printer.
    4. Turn on the printer.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Sometimes, the issue could be related to firmware bugs. Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check and update it via the HP Smart app or the printer’s web interface.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your kind response.

We do not currently have the setup cartridge, and the firmware is EXM1CN2022AR.

I followed your instructions, but it didn't work.

I have a lot of material that needs to be printed and it's frustrating to have this issue.

I see a lot of queries in the HP community with similar cases. It looks like you are sending a private message with the solution. Please find one similar case below for your reference.

My question is similar to the one above, but I would like to ask you to send me a message with the following content.

I'm thinking of downgrading the firmware if it doesn't work out in the end. If it is possible to downgrade the firmware, please let me know how.

“-The ink cartridges that go with the printers are setup ink cartridges that are designed to initialize the printer. These ink cartridges are not available in local stores.

-Performing an OOB reset on the printer may help.

-The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.

-I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
