@rjhoward99, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand you're experiencing slow printing with your HP DeskJet 4152e All-in-One Printer after upgrading to a new Windows 11 computer. Let's work through a few steps to improve your print speed:

Check for Printer Errors

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the wall.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.
  • This resets the printer and can clear temporary issues.

Disable Quiet Mode

Quiet Mode reduces noise but also slows down printing.

  • Open HP Printer Assistant (search for your printer in the Start menu).
  • Go to the Quiet Mode tab.
  • Set it to Off, then click Save Setting.

Adjust Print Quality Settings

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer > Printing Preferences.
  • Set Paper Type to Plain Paper and Print Quality to Draft or Normal for faster speeds.

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause performance issues.

Use HP Smart App

If you're using the basic driver, switching to the HP Smart app can improve performance.

  • Uninstall the current driver from Settings > Apps.
  • Download the HP Smart app from 123.hp.com and follow the setup instructions.

Check Ink Cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door and ensure both cartridges are properly installed.
  • Replace any low or empty cartridges.

I followed your instructions, and it changed the speed of printing but now when I initiate printing the printing starts all of the buttons flashing.  I hit the power button and the printer seems to go through a restart and then prints the page.  This only happens on the first page.  It doesn't happen with subsequent pages during the same session.

Any thoughts

@rjhoward99, Thanks for the update! It sounds like your HP DeskJet 4152e is now printing faster, but you're encountering a new issue where:

  • All buttons flash when the first print job is initiated.
  • The printer restarts after pressing the power button.
  • This only happens on the first page of a session.

This behavior typically points to a firmware glitch, cartridge initialization issue, or a driver communication delay. Here's how to resolve it:

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause startup glitches.

  • Visit the HP Support page.
  • Download and install the latest Firmware Update Utility.
  • Restart the printer after the update.

Check for Cartridge Issues

Flashing lights can indicate cartridge problems:

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove and reinsert both cartridges.
  • Clean the copper contacts gently with a lint-free cloth.
  • Make sure you're using genuine HP cartridges.

Reset the Printer

A full reset can clear temporary firmware bugs:

  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power it on.

Reinstall the Printer Driver

Corrupted drivers can cause communication delays:

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Remove the HP DeskJet 4152e.
  • Download and reinstall the driver via HP Smart App. HP Smart

Check for Windows Print Spooler Conflicts

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll to Print Spooler, right-click, and select Restart.

I hope this helps!

If my response resolves your issue, please click “Accepted Solution” to help others find the answer. Also, don’t forget to click the “Yes” button to say thanks!

Take care and have a great day.
