I was just given this printer - I’ve gone through all the set up steps, the app on my phone says the printer is ready (until I go to print something), and the screen is still telling me that the set up process is incomplete?

Hi @Rosie1225 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you were given this HP OfficeJet Pro 8034e, it’s possible that the previous owner didn’t fully complete the initial setup, or it may still be linked to an HP+ or Instant Ink account. Here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
1. Check for Any Pending Setup Steps on the Printer Screen
- On the printer’s touchscreen, look for any prompts or steps that need completion.
- If there is a "Continue Setup" or "Finish Setup" option, follow it.
2. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings (Recommended)
Since you received this printer from someone else, a factory reset will ensure that any old settings are cleared.
- On the printer screen, go to:
Settings → Printer Maintenance → Restore → Restore Factory Defaults - Once reset, restart the setup process using HP Smart on your phone or computer.
3. Check HP Smart App Status
- Open the HP Smart app and check if it asks for any final steps.
- If the app says "Printer Ready" but you can’t print, try removing and re-adding the printer in HP Smart.
4. Ensure HP+ or Instant Ink is Not Causing Issues
- If the printer was previously enrolled in HP+ or Instant Ink, it might need to be reactivated or unenrolled before working properly.
- Check the HP Smart account to see if there are any pending activations.
5. Update Printer Firmware
- On the printer’s touchscreen:
Settings → Printer Maintenance → Update the Printer - A firmware update may resolve any setup issues.
6. Perform a Hard Reset
If the issue persists:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from power for 2-3 minutes.
- Hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
After these steps, check if the setup incomplete message disappears. Let me know how it goes!
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
