Hi @JanHB,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your automatic two-sided (duplex) printing option disappeared after a Windows update, you're not alone. This is a known issue, especially with Windows 11 built-in print drivers.

Why the Duplex Option Is Missing

After a Windows update, your system may have switched to a generic or built-in driver, which lacks advanced features like duplex printing, color control, and paper type selection.

How to Fix It

1. Remove and Reinstall the Printer with Full HP Drivers

Step-by-step:

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Click your printer’s name > Remove.
  3. Visit 123.hp.com and enter your printer model.
  4. Download and install the full-feature HP driver/software package.
  5. Restart your PC and try printing again.

2. Enable Duplex Printing in Printer Properties

After reinstalling:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click your printer > Printer Properties.
  3. Go to the Device Settings tab.
  4. Under Installable Options, set Duplex Unit (for 2-Sided Printing) to Installed.
  5. Click Apply.

3. Check Print Dialog Settings

  • When printing a document, click Print > Preferences > Layout or Finishing tab.
  • Look for “Print on Both Sides” or “Two-sided printing”.
  • If it says manual, your printer may not be detecting the duplexer—recheck step 2.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
