Hi,
I would like to know if I have an error or if the printer is broken.
I have bought a HP Smart Tank 6001, the second one I have, and when I install the cartridge, I realized the printhead is not moving to the center.
I have tried to reset the printer, but it is not working.
Can it be broken as a new one?
Thanks!

@Flo808080, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're encountering a common issue during the initial setup of the HP Smart Tank 6001, where the printhead does not move to the center after installing the cartridges.
Remove All Packaging Materials
- Open the printer access door.
- Ensure all orange tape, cardboard, and plastic inserts are removed from inside the printer, especially around the printhead area.
Check for Obstructions
- Look inside the printer for any debris or packing material that might be blocking the printhead.
- Gently try to move the printhead by hand (only if it moves freely, don’t force it).
Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
Reinstall the Ink Cartridges
- Turn off and unplug the printer.
- Open the access door and remove the cartridges.
- Check for any damage or misalignment.
- Reinsert them securely and close the door.
Check for Firmware Updates
- If the printer connects to Wi-Fi, use the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel to check for and install any firmware updates.
Try Initializing Again
- Sometimes, the printer needs to be restarted after all the above steps to trigger the printhead movement.
If the printhead still doesn’t move, even after all these steps, it’s possible that:
- The printhead mechanism is faulty.
- The printer’s initialization sequence failed due to a hardware issue.
