I have a new 2820e printer which was easy to set up with the app but the ink cartridges will not click into place on the carriage holder. I get the click but they drop out. I've unplugged and reconnected after 60 seconds and checked for firmware updates with no joy.

Can anyone help please

Hi @T241B,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding ink cartridge installation issues for HP printers!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Cartridge Placement:

  • Ensure that you are inserting the cartridges correctly. Each cartridge must match the color-coded slot in the printhead. Slide each cartridge into its designated slot until you feel resistance and hear a click.

Inspect Cartridge:

  • Check the cartridge for any physical damage or obstructions that might prevent it from seating correctly. Ensure protective tape or packaging has been completely removed from the cartridge.

Reinsert Cartridges:

  • Remove the cartridges from the printer and reinsert them. Make sure you push them firmly into place to ensure they are properly seated.

Check Printhead Latch:

  • Ensure that the latch securing the printhead is closed properly. If the latch handle is raised, it can prevent the ink cartridges from staying in place. Ensure it is securely lowered.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Clean the electrical contacts on the ink cartridge with a lint-free cloth. Sometimes dirt or residue can interfere with proper seating.

Firmware Update:

  • Confirm that the printer's firmware is up-to-date. An update can sometimes resolve recognition issues with the cartridges.

I hope this helps.
