Hello Madgemonica,
How to Fix This Issue: To fix this issue, you should check the printer's software to see what color option is selected. You should un-select grey-scale or black and white and select color instead. You can even go so far as to disable printing options that are not color so that you avoid the issue in the future.

Thanks but the problem is that its showing no choices of colour or B&W These choices were there on previous prints but not now. Only printing black. It will copy colour no problem. Have reset everything and reconnected wifi. I use ipad and iphone not laptop. All been good up to recently.

Hello Madgemonica,
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on Mac
Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.
Open a document, photo, or webpage, click File > Print to open the Print window.
Make sure your printer is selected, and then click Show Details if it displays to access the print settings available for your printer.
Make sure the black and white box is not checked.

If the issue persists, reinstall the printer using the Airprint driver
1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
4.) Click the plus sign click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
Note: Select "Bonjour multifunction" under kind while installing.
Try printing.

I have checked for firmware updates through hp smart app and none showing so all up to date. We only use phone or ipad. No mac or laptop.
all worked fine for 2 yrs and suddenly this.
Maybe I could return to factory settings and reinstall as new but don't know how.
I am on the verge of scrapping it and buying a new printer !!
