ENVY 5540 all-in-one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP ENVY 5540 model K7c85A Printer.  I have the install discs that came with it.  I am shopping for an HP desktop computer with Windows 10.  (My current Windows 7 computer was purchased in December, 2012 and is too old to upgrade to Windows 10.)

I checked the HP support site and my printer is compatible with Windows 10.

My question is should I install my printer on my new computer with the original disc that came with it, or download the drivers from the printer’s web page?  Should I download to the computer directly or to a memory stick or disc first and then to the computer?

Use the online installation.  The CD is likely out of date by now.

Download-save either the Full Feature Software package or the Easy Start installation package.

If you use Easy Start, indicate (when asked) that you want to install the "Full Driver" (wording may vary).

  • Open File Explorer
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file  (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator

NOTES

  1. If you use the Easy Start method, select the Full Feature Software (full driver) when the option to select the software is presented. The name of the “full driver” might vary by printer model.  For example, the software might be called “Full Solution Software”.
  2. After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

I think you gave the best answer as I reseached in preperation of purchasing a new Windows 10 computer, but I could not load the printer/scanner on the new computer.  Spent hours with Windows 10 techs and HP techs.  Finally it was determined that the computer had hardware problem and I had to take it back.  Waiting for new one.

Thank you.

Too bad it could not fix the underlying problem.  Sigh.

Good Luck.
