HP PhotoSmart Premium c309
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

A friend gave me a new HP PhotoSmart Premium c309 printer, in the original unopened box.  I opened the box and discovered that the cartridges expired 2012/02.  I bought and installed new cartridges.  Connected printer to my home network with an Ethernet cable.  I followed instructions to connect and power up printer.  Display panel showed “Aligning print heads” and it has been stuck there for over 24-hours.

I am able to access the printer IP address via the web browser on my desktop computer. The web page displays “Status: web2Bs_0-1674488314640.png Cancelling Job”.

I’ve tried several suggestions for resetting the printer by unplugging and restarting, but each time resulting in “Aligning Cartridges. Please wait…”, and it has been stuck there for over 24-hours.  Pressing any button on the control panel results in “Busy”, so I’m unable to do further setup via the control panel.

Any suggestions on how to get this printer installed will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that your printer is stuck on the alignment message, I am glad to assist you.

You might have to perform a semi-full reset on the printer to fix this issue.

The reset instructions are specific to your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I am sending you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

I hope this helps resolve this issue completely.

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

The printer is old - minimally supported in Windows 10 - lacks setup ink cartridges.

I will forward your message to our Moderator team.

If there is a way to resurrect the printer and get some setup ink, an agent might be able to help.

Should there be a response, look for the agent to get back to you here before using other methods to contact you.

If the printer mechanics can be made to work,

There is no listed Windows 10 full driver (in Software and Drivers) --

The printer can be used with the Built-in Windows print drivers.

Built-in Driver

Reference here:

HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver

Scan?  See Section FAQ > How do I use the printer functions with the built-in driver?

Example

Scan documents and photos: Complete scan jobs with a Windows app that works with the built-in driver.

  • Windows Fax and Scan: In Windows, search for and open Windows Fax and Scan. Click New Scan, and then select your printer.
  • Windows Paint: In Windows, search for and open Paint. Click FileFrom scanner or camera.
  • Windows Scan app: In Windows, search for and open the Windows Scan app. If it is not listed, go to Windows Scan (in English) to install it.
