HP Photosmart 8050
Microsoft Windows Server 2019

Hello,

I am trying to get a HP Photosmart 8050 to work on a Windows Server 2019.

Windows automatically assigns a driver but the printer cannot be selected in Applications for printing. In the "Devices and Printers" page in the Control Center (sorry if translated wrong), the according printer entry shows "driver is not available" on hovering over with the mouse. The printer does not show in print dialogs of applications. Updating the driver in the device manager changes nothing.

I also tried to install the Universal Printing Driver for PCL 6 from HP; but the only reponse from the printer is that it prints empty pages endlessly when I try to print a document.

What can I do to diagnose the problem?

On Wikipedia I read that the printer supports the PCL 3+. How can I configure the printer to use a PCL 3+ compatible driver?

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

Here are the drivers for your printer, extract the, and manually select it within the Add Printer Wizard, then select the HP Photosmart 8000 Series:

Hi,

You may follow the below steps to install your printer:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01796879

If you experience difficulties getting the drivers installed automatically from Windows Update, these can also be obtained and manually installed from the Microsoft Update Catalog:

Hello,

Thank you very much for your response.

I followed the manual under https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01796879, but in

step 3 → "USB connection (Windows 10, 8)" → 8

I could not find the name of my printer in the list of drivers. I only found the universal printing driver for PCL 6 I installed earlier (without success, as described). Fetching drivers automatically from Windows Update is enabled, though.

Some days ago I searched for "photosmart server 2019" in the Windows Update Catalog and could find several entries so that I bookmarked the page (and unfortunately I did not download the drivers then). Today even when I broaden the query to "photosmart" no results are displayed. Does that mean Photosmart printers are ultimately not supported anymore?

Regards

Thank you so much! Everything works as expected except of some problems with black and yellow ink, but that is probably another story.
