HP Deskjet 2700
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Bought the printer as I needed to print something urgently. I have never been so frustrated with a printer or any device before.

I have tried to re-install it more than 15 times but it just doesn't work properly. Tried everything I found from Google.

On Mac:

  • HP Smart - The steps went till Install Ink and then stopped. No other button or link other than 'Skip Ink Installation'
  • It said to manually install the printer driver. Didn't work as the printer was not available on 'Scanners & Printers'.
    • I clicked + on 'printer and scanner' but no printer was available to add. I tried HP firmware site but there also couldn't download anything.
  • Tried installation few times, tried other solutions like power off/on, forget this printer etc. After 6 hours of frustrating attempts I gave up on Day 1.
  • Next day printer status is showing as 'Ready'. Tried printing and got 1 page to print. After that tried 8-10 times but couldn't get it to print. An error will come while sending the file to print. Sometimes printer itself will become unavailable status.

On iPad:

  • Day 2 after giving up any hope of getting Mac to work, I tried on iPad.
  • Couldn't complete the set up due to an error 'Weak Bluetooth connection'. The iPad was on top of the printer but distance is definitely not the issue.

It has been a horrible experience, none of my Canon printers earlier gave even 1% of this much problem.

@Bond-911, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to print from your Mac or iPad. Let us try these steps:

Try making a standalone copy and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Check the connectivity between the devices.

  • Make sure the printer and the Mac/iPad are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

This printer is AirPrint compatible. Install the printer using the AirPrint driver.

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Note: Select "Bonjour multifunction" under kind while installing.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
