Microsoft Windows XP

I have a new HP Smart Tank 6100 printer connected via Wi-Fi to my desktop printer--all is good with that. But I also want to print from a 2008 hp/compaq notebook running Windows XP.

The notebook is not used for internet browsing anymore. However, I did use Wi-Fi to connect to a printer now replaced by the Smart Tank model. The notebook has some software apps that remain useful particularly if a printer driver can be installed. The driver would have to be downloaded to disc or usb drive on my desktop, then installed on the notebook.

Dragon-Fur,

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Your reply is what I supposed the case would be.

I had hoped maybe HP had a kind of generic printer driver that could make basic printing to a Smart Tank all-in-one from WinXP OS possible. But, time and technology marches on. My workaround for the still useful apps on the old notebook is to create a pdf file, copy to USB drive, then use my Win11 desktop to print the file. Cumbersome, but it can work for the few times I need it.

You are welcome.

Sometimes the answer fits the present but not-so-much reaching that far into the past.

Supposing any limitations on a universal driver - assuming there were such a thing -- the solution you are using might be the best option.  At least you know the formatting in a current driver and current printer will likely respect the format of your PDF file.

Stay Safe - the Summer months are upon us.
