Is there a way to disable the Sleep and Shut Off Mode on my HP Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M479fdw? I see this has been a known problem since 2017. Please tell me there is a way by now. I have the latest firmware installed.

My 2 cents, on pro models there is typically no way to completely disable sleep mode. HP does this to earn their eco ratings for things such as Blue Angel. On Enterprise products you can disable auto-off, at least on any of the units I have worked on featuring Future Smart firmware 5.8. Personally for Multi-function units with Fax functionality I question the logic of having them power off completely as startup time may exceed the # of rings to answer the sending fax will wait for before hanging up.

Hi @PlumbLuck,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Yes, you can adjust the Sleep Mode and Auto-Off settings on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw to reduce or eliminate the impact of these modes. Here's how.
Disable or Adjust Sleep Mode:
- On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Settings > Energy Settings > Sleep Timer Settings.
- Set the Sleep/Auto-Off After option to a higher duration or Never if available.
Disable or Adjust Auto-Off Mode:
- Go to Settings > Energy Settings > Auto Off.
- Set Auto Off After to a higher duration or turn it off entirely if possible.
Using HP Embedded Web Server (EWS):
- Access the printer's EWS by entering the printer’s IP address into a web browser.
- Go to Settings > Energy Settings or Power Management.
- Adjust Sleep and Auto-Off settings to your preference, similar to the steps on the printer touchscreen.
Please note that some adjustments might still allow the printer to enter a low-power state, especially after firmware updates intended to save energy.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

You just described everything I tried prior to contacting you. I was asking "IF" there is a way to fully disable the power saving feature. I'd like a definite answer not a maybe. Can you please elevate my question if needed to get an answer? I've seen this being asked for by many customers since 2017, why won't you return that feature to us to choose? At the very least make it longer than 8 hours and 30 minutes for sleep so we don't have to change brands.

I have the same issue for my HP Color Laser Jet Pro 4201dn, and I also called HP technical support, and they said there might be a firmware coming out soon on this.... TBD. Unfortunately, there is no other way around this but to script it out somehow.
HP should certainly give the consumer a right to change this setting to more personal preferences.
Cool-

Thank you for your help. Why they force us is now at least more clear, however non-consumer friendly it is. The fact that it renders the 24/7 aspect of fax and printing useless should be keeping them up at nights even if their machines are not!

I've heard the same promise of firmware updates in the future "may" address the issue. I'm not holding my breath as it's been an issue since 2017 according to some other posts I read. Thank you for your contribution to keeping this issue alive.
