HP Smart Tank 580 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I have two HP Smart Tank 580-series printers installed at two different office locations. Both printers are being used independently on separate networks. When I configure/connect one printer through HP Smart, the other printer subsequently becomes unavailable or has connection/setup issues. I have already tried removing and reinstalling the printers multiple times.

Most of the times I am unable to use either of the printers using both wireless and wired methods. In such scenarios I am forced to go to a shop to take out prints even when I own a printer of my own.

I need assistance configuring both printers so that they remain independently identifiable and connected at their respective locations. Please help me troubleshoot the printer/network configuration and, if required, create a technical support case.

Hi @Balajihari

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the concern. Since you have two HP Smart Tank 580 series printers at different office locations, HP App may sometimes associate with the last discovered printer, especially if both printers have similar names or are being managed through the same HP account. We can help ensure each printer remains independently identifiable and consistently accessible.

Please try the following:

Assign a unique printer name to each printer

  • Open the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering the printer's IP address in a web browser.
  • Navigate to Network or Advanced Settings.
  • Rename the printers with unique names such as:
    • HP Smart Tank 580 Office-A
    • HP Smart Tank 580 Office-B
  • Save the changes and restart the printers.

Configure a reserved/static IP address for each printer

  • Access the router settings at each office location.
  • Create a DHCP reservation for the printer's current IP address.
  • This helps prevent the printer IP from changing and improves connection stability.

Remove old printer instances from Windows

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Remove all existing Smart Tank 580 entries.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Add the printer again using its IP address rather than automatic discovery when possible.

Refresh the HP App configuration

  • Sign out of the HP App.
  • Remove any offline or duplicate printer entries.
  • Sign in again and add each printer individually.
  • Confirm that each printer displays its unique printer name.

Verify connectivity

  • Print a Network Information Report from each printer.
  • Confirm the printer shows a valid IP address and is connected to the intended network.
  • Test printing using the printer's IP address through a browser.

If the issue continues, please let us know:

  • Are both printers linked to the same HP account in the HP App?
  • Are you accessing both printers from the same Windows 11 computer, or does each office have its own PC?

With these adjustments, both Smart Tank 580 printers should remain uniquely identified and operate independently at their respective locations.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
