Hi @rickpost,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how confusing it can be when your HP Smart app shows your old printer instead of the one you want to use. Let’s fix that so you can scan with the correct device.

Steps to Remove the Old Printer and Add the New One in HP Smart

1. Remove the Old Printer

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Click on the old printer’s name at the top.
  • Select “Remove Printer” or go to Settings > Remove this printer.

2. Add the Correct Printer

  • Make sure your new printer is powered on and in Wi-Fi setup mode (Wireless light blinking).
  • Click “Add Printer” in HP Smart.
  • Select your current printer from the list.
  • Follow the prompts to complete setup.

💡 If your printer doesn’t show up, press and hold the Wireless + Cancel buttons on the printer for 5 seconds to re-enable setup mode.

3. Set the New Printer as Default (Optional)

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners in Windows.
  • Click your new printer → Set as default.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
