When upgrading to macos 15.1 Sonoma I get this warning message. How do I fix the kext?
"Legacy System Extension - Existing Software on your system loaded a system extension signed by
"HP Inc." which, will be incompatible with a future version of MacOS."

Hi @mossrock9,
Thank you for your response,
The warning message you're seeing is due to the macOS 15.1 (Sonoma) update removing support for older system extensions (kexts), which are commonly used by printers and other peripherals. In this case, it seems that your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw printer driver is using an older kext that will no longer be compatible with future macOS versions.
To address this issue, you can try the following steps:
Update HP Printer Drivers
HP typically releases updated drivers that are compatible with newer macOS versions. You can download the latest drivers from HP's official website. Follow these steps:
- Visit HP's official driver page.
- Enter your printer model (HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw).
- Download and install the latest driver package for macOS.
Remove Legacy Kext
If you still see the legacy kext after updating, you may need to manually remove it:
- Open Finder and navigate to the Library folder in your Mac's root directory (not the user Library).
- Go to System/Library/Extensions and look for any files related to HP (they may be named something like hp*.kext).
- Move the relevant kexts to the trash (you may need to provide an administrator password).
- After deleting the kexts, restart your Mac.
Reinstall the HP Printer Drivers
After removing the outdated kext, reinstall the latest drivers:
- Download the drivers from HP's website (as mentioned in step 1).
- Install the driver and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
- Restart your Mac after the installation.
Check System Preferences for Printer Setup
Once the new drivers are installed, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners and add your printer if it's not automatically detected.
By updating the driver and removing the outdated kext, you should be able to continue using your printer without encountering compatibility issues with future macOS updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
