Hi @hubby999
Welcome to the HP Support Community. To assist you better, I need to know the following:
- Which application are you trying to print from?
- Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word or Webpages and check if the issue persists?
- How is the printer connected to the MAC?
For now, let us try these steps to resolve this issue:
Update the printer firmware
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on MAC
Keep me posted for further assistance.

@TEJ1602 your answer does not help as it has already been given earlier in the same thread.
I have the same issue since I upgraded to Mac OS 10.14 (different printer, mine is an HP OfficeJet 150, but the issue is the same).
Could it be that some HP drivers are not compatible with Mac OS 10.14? That's my impression.
Best regards.

From what I can read in this thread, all people here with OS 10.14 or 10.15 have issues and have this "filter failed" message.
I have it on my HP OfficeJet 150 since I reformatted my computer, installed OS 10.14 on a blank computer, and downloaded the latest HP driver.
The support is not very helpful as it comes with repeated procedures to perform (which don't work) or with questions.
I would rather be thinking that some HP drivers are just not compatible with these OS 10.14 and 15.
In my case, my best option is to throw away the HP printer and purchase a new one (not an HP, obviously!)
