HP OfficeJet 8022 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I want to know if it's better to power off my HP 8022 printer every evening or leave it on all the time, and why. (the why is important for me to know). I've been told that if I leave it on, it goes into sleep mode and hardly uses any electricity. Does it also improve the life of the printer and print head if I leave it on?

It is best to leave it on and let it go into standby or sleep and the reason for that is so that built in maintenance cycles that keep print quality at it's best cannot run if you turn the printer completely off. These maintenance cycles use less ink than having to run a full head cleaning and power usage in sleep mode is miniscule.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you want to schedule sleep mode on the printer, I am glad to assist you.

Use Sleep Mode, Auto-Off and Schedule On/Off to conserve electricity.

Power usage is reduced while in Sleep mode. After initial setup of printer, the printer will enter Sleep mode after five minutes of inactivity.

Use the following instructions to change the period of inactivity before the printer sleeps.

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, touch.

2. Touch Sleep Mode, and then touch the desired option.

"I am an HP employee" doesn't answer my question.

I'm sorry, but your response doesn't answer my questions. I already have the printer set to go into sleep mode in the shortest amount of time available. My questions concerned whether the printer uses much electricity when it's in sleep mode and if it harms the printer head if it's turned off and on every day. My concerns were answered by Repairatrooper.

By the way, getting to Sleep Mode isn't just a two-step procedure. First, you have to tap the Setup cog on the first two screens, then choose Power Management, then Sleep Mode.
