I installed a new OfficeJet Pro 8023, but when I connected my LAN cable between the router port and the printer port no lights showed. The printer reported no network connection.

Welcome to HP support community.
-
Turn off the printer, and then disconnect the Ethernet cable from the router.
-
Inspect the cable.
-
Look for any damage. If the cable is damaged, replace the cable.
-
Make sure the cable is fully secured to both ports.
-
Confirm the cable is an Ethernet cable and not a phone cable. Ethernet cables and phone cables look similar but are different sizes.

-
Connect the cable to a different Ethernet or LAN port on the router. Avoid connecting the cable to the Internet port.
-
Turn on the printer.
-
Confirm the connection on your printer by checking the lights on the printer’s Ethernet
port. The green link light should be steady, and the orange activity light should blink when the cable is connected.

Local HP support personnel worked remotely quite a while to examine the problem. They came to the conclusion that my printer was damaged and authorized replacement. The new printer performs very well.
As an aside, my previous printer was a Canon. Their interface is much nicer and easier to use. Among other things, it is easy to direct the output of scans to the desired directory. I would suggest looking at Canon Quick Menu (an icon on the desktop for easy access) and seeing how to incorporate the good features into HP's app. Since we''re talking about a network printer, the interface should be readily installed on any computer that adds it to its devices.
