Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Although I have managed to download HPScan for my new Smart Tank 5016, I cannot download a basic printer driver that will allow it to function on Windows 8.

Is there one available?

Thank you.

A.

Thanks Max,3Aj

I saw that connection before but no direct mention of downloading printer drivers made me miss it. The line of videos were confusing - I hadn't seen that sort of offering before! However, I persevered and manged to set up the printer as you directed.

Many Thanks.

Unfortunately, i now have a problem with the new inks not drying. Should I raise that here, or in another discussion area??

@Appassionata, A huge thank you for marking this post as the 'Accepted Solution'! We're thrilled that we could help resolve your issue.

If your HP Smart Tank 5106 All-in-One is having trouble with new ink not drying properly, especially black ink.
Here are some steps and insights that might help resolve it:

Check the Paper Type:

  • Use HP-recommended paper. Some generic or low-quality papers may not absorb ink properly.
  • Try switching to a heavier or coated paper (e.g., 100 gsm or photo paper) to see if drying improves.

Print Settings:

  • In the print dialog, try setting the paper type to "HP Matte" or "HP Photo Paper" even if you're using plain paper. This can adjust ink output.
  • Use "Draft" mode to reduce ink usage and drying time.

Ink Cartridge Issues:

  • If only black ink is affected, it could be a faulty or expired cartridge.
  • Run the printhead cleaning utility from the HP Smart app or printer menu.

Environmental Factors:

  • High humidity can prevent ink from drying. Try printing in a cool, dry environment.
  • Use a fan or gentle heat source (like a desk lamp) to test if drying improves.

Hi Max3,

Thanks for the reply, but I have already tried all of the practical solutions suggested.

First, using Glossy Photo paper, and making that selection from the paper choices available, produced wet ink. Not expecting this as I had printed many glossy photos on the same paper on two different hp printers (2700 & 5520) without ever having a problem; I didn't noticed that I had smudged the black ink onto my fingers!

A minute later i looked at my hand and saw black ink on my fingers, also noting that this had been transfered onto my trousers!

As previous ink spills from the other two printers left almost unremoval stains, I first washed my hands. I was surprised to see that the ink washed off. Applying soap and scrubbing the marks on the trousers also removed the stains.

Whilst this move to a more clothes-friendly ink chemical formula is a blessing; this less volatile ink seems to be the reason why the black part of a colour print won't dry.

As the print comes out, you can see the black ink sections glossy and shining. Leaving the print overnight dries off the print, but the surface smudges as soon as it is touched.

As I said, I have never had any problem with other hp inkjet printers. I have tried all combinations of paper type and print type on the 5106, and the only successful result came from Draft printing on normal paper. The quality is not a patch on that produced by my 2700 on its best settings.

The ink was loaded from a new bottle that came with the printer last week, so age is not a problem.

For the moment, I am stuck with an expensive and sophisticated printer than cannot print a quality colour print!

What are your thoughts about a changed ink formula?

Thanks,

@A.
