laptop is Envy. Had received a message that due to security issue my printer was axed and I was to use HP SMART. However SMART cannot find my printer.. Multiple searches to add printer - yields no printers found. Need to print.

@sanjara, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand you're unable to find your printer using HP Smart on your HP Envy laptop, especially after receiving a message about a security-related change. Let's walk through the steps to get your printer reconnected and working again.

Check Printer Status

  • Make sure your printer is powered on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your laptop.
  • If it has a touchscreen, go to Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard and reconnect it to your Wi-Fi.

Reset Network Settings on Printer (if needed)

If your printer isn’t showing up, reset its network settings:

  • On most HP printers: Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons until the power light blinks.
  • Then reconnect using the Wireless Setup Wizard.

Reinstall HP Smart

  • Uninstall HP Smart from your laptop.
  • Download the latest version from the Microsoft Store or directly from HP: HP Smart

Add Printer in HP Smart

  • Open HP Smart and click “Add Printer”.
  • If it doesn’t find your printer:
    • Click “Set up a new printer”.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect via Wi-Fi or USB.

Check Windows Firewall or Antivirus

Sometimes security software blocks printer discovery:

  • Temporarily disable firewall/antivirus and try adding the printer again.
  • Re-enable after setup.

Assign a Static IP (Advanced)

If the printer keeps disappearing:

  • Find the printer’s IP address from its control panel.
  • Enter it in your browser to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  • Set a static IP under Network > IPv4 Configuration.

Once you've tried these steps, let us know:

  • Your printer model
  • How it's connected (Wi-Fi, USB, etc.)
  • Any error messages you see

We’re here to help you get printing again! 🖨💻

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
