Hi @timbu19

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that your printer was previously displaying Error 79, and after restarting the device, it is now showing Error 49 during startup. These error codes are generally associated with firmware interruptions, print job corruption, or communication issues between the printer and connected devices.

Power cycle.

  • Turn the printer off, and then on.
  • If the error persists, print an Event Log to verify how often the error occurs.
  • If the error occurs more than one time per week, make sure Auto Recovery is enabled using either the control panel or the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Open the following menus:

  • FutureSmart 3: Administration > Management
  • FutureSmart 4: Settings > General
  • Select the Auto Recovery option.
  • Select Enabled and then select Save.

If this solves the error and the error does not reoccur, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.

If the error clears and then reoccurs again at a later date, follow the steps below for Intermittent 49 errors.

If the error will not clear, follow the link below for Persistent 49 errors.

Thanks Pallipurath. I was unable to get a menu on the screen but got rid of the orange exclamation mark by pressing buttons. Printer still not connected to WiFi but I will have some time today to work on it.

Hi @timbu19

Thank you for responding.

I glad to hear that you managed to get rid of the exclamation mark by pressing the buttons, However still the printer is not connected to WiFi, I would request you to please follow the network reset and try connecting again.

Update Printer Network Settings

  • On the printer’s control panel, tap the Wireless icon.
  • Go to Settings → Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • Select your new Wi‑Fi network from the list.
  • Enter the Wi‑Fi password carefully.
  • Confirm connection — the wireless light should turn solid blue.

Router Configuration

  • Ensure your printer connects to the 2.4 GHz band.
  • If your router broadcasts separate SSIDs for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, select the 2.4 GHz one.
  • Check firewall/security settings to ensure the printer is allowed to connect.
  • If WPA3 security is enabled, switch to WPA2 — many printers don’t support WPA3.

Use HP  App https://www.hp.com/us-en/hp-app/overview.html

  • Install the HP App on your PC or mobile device.
  • Open the app and select Add Printer.
  • Follow the guided steps to connect the printer to your new Wi‑Fi network.

Reset Network Settings

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Network Setup → Restore Network Settings.
  • This clears old Wi‑Fi details.
  • Run the Wireless Setup Wizard again to connect fresh.

Have a good day.
