This printer has had a periodic problem where I lose wifi connectivity, and need to reconnect it to the internet. In the past, I would use the HP Printer Assistant app and go to Tools -> Device Setup and reconnect to wifi using a USB cable connecting the printer to my PC and that would resolve the issue. However, this doesn't seem to work anymore. I then tried using the HP Smart app, but I am unable to find the printer, even when the printer is connected to the computer with a USB. I'd like to perform a full factory reset and see if I can get this connected that way. Thanks in advance.

@YammyFan, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Factory Reset on HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w and Reconnecting to Wi-Fi!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you're experiencing persistent issues with Wi-Fi connectivity on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w, performing a factory reset and reconnecting to Wi-Fi may help resolve the problem.

Factory Reset Steps

Turn off the Printer: Ensure your printer is powered off.

Disconnect Power: Unplug the printer’s power cord from the electrical outlet, wait at least 30 seconds, and then plug it back in.

Access Factory Reset Menu:

  • Turn on the printer and navigate to the printer’s control panel.
  • Depending on your printer’s model, the reset option might be available under System, Setup, or Service.
  • Look for an option like Restore Factory Defaults, Reset Factory Settings, Factory Restore, or Service.
  • Select the restore or reset option, and follow any prompts that may appear to confirm your choice.

Printer Restart: Allow the printer to restart automatically. This process may take some time.

Reconnecting to Wi-Fi

Once the factory reset is complete, the printer will need to be set up again on your Wi-Fi network.

Re-enable Wireless Settings:

  • Ensure your printer is powered on.
  • Utilize the printer’s control panel to navigate to Wireless settings.

Using HP Smart App:

  • Ensure that your computer or mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to connect to.
  • If the HP Smart app is installed on your PC or mobile device, open the app and add the printer by clicking Set up a new printer.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to Wi-Fi.

Manual Wi-Fi Setup (Using Embedded Web Server):

  • Obtain the printer’s IP address from the printer’s control panel.
  • Type this IP address into a web browser to open the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  • Access the Network or Wireless settings, and follow prompts to connect to the desired wireless network.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
