LaserJet CP1025nw
Chrome OS

I want to connect an HP LaserJet CP1025nw to a Chomebook via USB. I updated the printer to the latest firmware from the HP website  and added the HP Print for Chrome app to the Chromebook but when I try to print I just get a message that says "The printer software does not support the selected printer." This website indicates that the CP1025nw does support HP Print for Chrome: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03722645

The firmware version says it is 20130826 but I don't think HP Print for Chrome was available back then. Is there a way to get a more current firmware version for the CP1025nw? Or is there some other way to print to a Chromebook with a USB connection?

Maybe not relevant but I see the direct print configuration is turned off and I don't know how to turn it on if that is the issue.

Thanks for any ideas.

Hey there! @Temoshee,

Have you tried checking with a different USB cable?

I have checked the records and printer does support Google Cloud Print and HP Print for Chrome.

Try the steps recommended below and check if it helps.

To use Google Cloud Print, register your Google Cloud Print Ready printer with Google Cloud Print.
Make sure your Chromebook is turned on and is connected to the wireless network with an active Internet connection.
Turn on your printer or press a button on the control panel to make sure the printer is in a ready state.
On your printer, make sure the light next to the Wireless icon is on and steady, and then open the Wireless network menu to make sure the printer is connected to the same network as your Chromebook.
If you have not connected the printer to the network, for printers with LCD or text control panels use the Wireless Setup Wizard in the Network, Wireless, or Setup menu to connect it, or press the wireless button until it blinks, and then press the WPS button on the router to connect using Wi-Fi Protected Setup.
Open the Chrome browser, and then sign in to your Google account.
Click the Chrome menu icon, and then select Settings from the drop-down menu.
In the Settings window, scroll down and select Show advanced settings.
Scroll down to Google Cloud Print, and then click the Manage button.
Google Cloud Print detects any printers on the network.
If your printer is listed under 'New devices', click Register, and then click Register again to confirm and print a confirmation page. For some printers, you might be prompted to complete the registration from the control panel.
If your printer is listed under 'My devices', and then your printer is already registered with Google Cloud Print. Click Manage to view your registered Google Cloud Print printer.
If your printer is not listed, and then it was not discovered. Continue to the next section to register your printer using HP ePrint.

Hi,

I suggest trying a wireless connection, although the CP1025nw is supported by HP Print for Chrome, such a PCLmS printer should only allow printing wirelessly.

Printers not supported by USB OTG will not work with USB using HP Print for Chrome as well due to similar requirements:

If you experience any issues printing wirelessly, is the printer already connected to your wireless network or not?

Does your router support WPS?

Do you have any other computer to connect the printer wirelessly, or may you only have the Chromebook?

Hi A4Apollo,

Thank you but Google Cloud Print will not allow me to print from an ethernet connected computer. I would like to print directly from an ethernet connected device to the printer with a USB cable. The reason I asked the question is that the HP website states (my emphasis): "The printer hardware is set up and connected to your computer or Chromebook with a USB cable or wir...

That indicates to me that I do not need a wireless network. I can just use the USB cable. Also, this website shows that the CP1025nw is compatible with HP Print for Chrome: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2843711-2427128-16

Thanks for your response.

Hi ShlomiL,

My router does support WPS. I am not clear on when I should press the WPS button as the attached screenshots in the setup do not indicate it. The printer works fine USB-connected to an old Windows 7 machine but when I choose the wireless connection it always fails (see last image). Oddly, I do see the printer as a device on my network but the Chromebook does not see it. Thank you. Temoshee
