HP LaserJet Pro 3002dw Printer

Hi there,

I recently purchased a LaserJet Pro 3002dw and initially connected it to my MacBook via USB cable. My MacBook is running OS Sonoma 14.4.1. Everything was working fine until I attempted to perform a firmware update on the printer. Unfortunately, the firmware update failed, and now the printer is showing as offline.

Here's what I've tried so far:

I removed the printer from my list of printers on the MacBook and I attempted to add the printer again, but it is not being detected. I have ensured that the USB cable is securely connected, and I've tried restarting both the printer and the MacBook multiple times, but the issue persists.

Could anyone provide guidance on how to resolve this issue and get my printer back online?

Thanks for your help!

Hi @mlaserj,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

When a firmware update fails and your HP LaserJet Pro 3002dw is no longer detected by your MacBook running OS Sonoma 14.4.1, several troubleshooting steps can be taken to resolve the issue. Here’s a detailed guide to help you:

1. Power Cycle the Printer and MacBook

  1. Power Off the Printer: Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  2. Restart the MacBook: Shut down your MacBook, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
  3. Reconnect the Printer: Plug the printer back into the power source and turn it on. Wait until it is fully started.

2. Check USB Connection

  1. Secure Connection: Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the MacBook.
  2. Try Different Ports: Use a different USB port on your MacBook to rule out port-specific issues.
  3. Try Another Cable: If possible, try using a different USB cable to ensure the cable is not faulty.

3. Remove and Re-add the Printer

  1. Open System Preferences: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Remove Printer: If the printer is still listed, select it and click the minus (-) button to remove it.
  3. Re-add Printer: Click the plus (+) button to add the printer again. Wait to see if the printer is detected.

4. Reset the Printing System

  1. Reset Printing System:
    • Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    • Right-click (or control-click) in the list of printers and select Reset printing system.
    • Confirm the reset. This will remove all printers and reset printer settings.
  2. Re-add Printer: After the reset, try adding the printer again.

5. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  1. HP Easy Start:
    • Download and install HP Easy Start from the HP website. This tool helps to install the latest drivers and software for your printer.
  2. Manually Install Drivers:
    • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your HP LaserJet Pro 3002dw.
    • Install the drivers following the on-screen instructions.

Kindly check the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @mlaserj,

Please find the next steps below.

6. Attempt a Firmware Recovery

  1. Firmware Recovery Mode:
    • Some HP printers have a firmware recovery mode. Check the printer’s manual or HP Support for specific instructions on how to enter firmware recovery mode.
    • Follow the instructions to recover the firmware. This may involve using a USB flash drive or other methods provided by HP.

7. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor (if available)

  • HP Print and Scan Doctor:
    • If you have access to a Windows computer, you can download and use the HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix issues with the printer.
    • Follow the tool’s instructions to attempt a firmware recovery or resolve connectivity issues.

Additional Tips:

  • Ensure Compatibility: Confirm that the printer model is compatible with macOS Sonoma 14.4.1.
  • Check for Updates: Make sure your MacBook is running the latest version of macOS Sonoma.
  • Use a Different Computer: If possible, try connecting the printer to a different computer to see if it is detected.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue with your HP LaserJet Pro 3002dw not being detected by your MacBook after the failed firmware update. If the problem persists, contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.
