Dear HP Gentlefolk,

I love HP, and I use *only* OEM toner. Having said that, we have over 100 HP nodes (LaserJet/OfficeJet, mostly) that we have to scan and - most likely - update their firmware. We assume that many users have been buying non-OEM toner, and I was wondering if there is a list of printers that will start rejecting those once we flash the firmware. I know that my M277dn was one of them.

Nota bene: I fully support HP's decision to reject aftermarket toners, which have been known to cause issues; in a few cases our organization had to replace broken printers because having them repaired would be too costly.

TIA,

CP

Hi @command_prompt,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

I understand you would like to know the dynamic security enabled printers.

The Firmware Update may prevent supplies with non-HP chips or circuitry from working.

Note: For printers manufactured prior to December 1, 2016 dynamic security will not be enabled by the firmware. Please note that HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP cartridges.

You may refer to this document -  HP Printers - Dynamic Security Enabled Printers and Dynamic Security Feature Affecting Cartridges Using Non-HP Security Chip

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for reply, greatly appreciated. I know that a firmware update may prevent printer from recognizing a non-HP toner, I was just wondering if there is a known/existing list of HP LaserJets (both color and monochrome) that *will* stop recognizing non-OEM supplies. Something similar to the https://support.hp.com/hr-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-6830-e-all-in-one-printerserie/5390307/documen... , but for LaserJets. I am trying to be proactive and make our users aware that they should switch to HP parts prior to the firmware update, and that certain non-OEM supplies they may have already purchased will have to be thrown out/recycled.

Having access to such list will help me with reaching out to owners/users of these printers. Unfortunately, we do not know when these LaserJets were manufactured and/or purchased.

Unfortunately, we do not have a list of dynamic security enabled laserjet printers.

Is there anything else I can help you with?

Let me know!
