Laserjet Pro 3201dw and MacOS 10.12

Can the Laserjet Pro 3201dw work with MacOS 10.12? The specification page for it says MacOS 12.0 or higher. Yet there are help posts of people setting it up on 10.12. My Mac old Mac runs 10.12 and can't be upgraded. Is there an HP color laser printer which will work with it? My HP LaserJet Pro M452dn died from a 59.F0 error. Now I'm stuck with no printing. Please help!

Thank you very much for responding and so quickly! Just 2 quick followup questions:

1. So just to confirm, this will work in MacOS 10.12 even though HP now says the Laserjet Pro 3201dw printer must have MacOS 12?

2. While I suppose I can use wireless, I was planning to use a wired ethernet connection to the printer. Can this be done?

Sorry, I forget to check specific requirements for this printer model.

Now I understand that you are about to buy this printer model.

Ok, I will answer in the best of my knowledge so far, since this is a Community run by volunteers.

Answer 1.

1. Checking on requirements for Laserjet Pro 3201dw it says "Minimum System requirement - MacOS 12.0"

• so following requirements my answer will be
  • "No, it will not work with lower than MacOS 12.0 if you want to use HP Smart" because HP Smart is  compatible to work with MacOS 12.0 and above systems.

• but again if you check this model specifications for Printer Language it says "PCL 6, Postcript, PCL5"
• and since all MacOS systems has Postscript language build inside Printer System, that means that you can use most of the printer features but not all, using Postscript compatible Mac drivers like a "general Laserjet driver".

Answer 2.

2. For using printer with a wired Ethernet cable, yes you can, because Laserjet 3201dw has an Ethernet back port.

So I don´t know 🤔 if these answers will be helpful to you, but when you Mix two technologies with some years in between that is always tricky, you may have some compatible options but not all.
