Laserjet M1212nf MFP printer stuck on initializing after downloading and installing drivers from the HP site on new laptop. Nothing works anymore, just sits and says "initializing". Can't copy, scan or fax either. Any ideas on how to get it working again or to reset it to original settings? If I take the toner cartridge out it asks for it and if I hit the wrench button the Main Menu comes up but if I use the arrow keys it goes blank after about three presses and the up comes "initializing" again.
HELP!!

Hello @JT1-_ ,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
You need to provide some more details:
- How is the printer connected? USB or Network?
- Has it ever worked or is this a new installation?
- Are messages displayed on the control panel?
See user manual on page 195, chapter 12 Solve problems - Are original HP toner cartridges used?
Print a Supplies Status Page and
upload here, click on the icon "Insert photos", "Set format = Large", original size at least 200 KB.
But before you must remove or delete the personal data and printer serial number on the printout.
Kind Regards

It is connected on a network router also have tried with a USB connection (no Luck either)
It has worked for years. I just got a new windows laptop (old laptop hard drive failed) and trying to print with that. Installed printer on windows laptop, it said it could not find a driver so i downloaded from HP said driver and installed and then got "initializing" error
Only message on panel is a continuing "initializing" error message
Non HP cartridge that has been working prior to new laptop installation
Tried unplugging, waiting 30 sec, power button hold for 30 seconds, no luck
Tried holding right arrow and x button, then says "permanent storage init", then language (English) push OK button, then location "USA", push OK button, then it returns to "initializing"
Green light is always on, yellow light flashed periodically
If I take the toner cartridge out it asks to to install cartridge then if I hit the wrench button I get the menu and I can scroll thru but no functions and within 10 seconds it goes back to install cartridge. When I install cartridge it goes back to "initializing".
I have been using this printer since 2011 and with two other laptops and now the third one is causing this problem.
I can not print, copy, fax or scan as I had before.
Thanks for any help.

Before the printer was connected to the new laptop. Has a firmware update been performed?
If not, then continue here otherwise reply first.
Where is the Supplies Status page?
Download only HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver .
Here's what you need to do:
- Disconnect printer/scanner from computer- Disable WLAN, WiFi and/or remove the USB or LAN cable.- Do not switch off the printer >> unplug the power cord from the socket!
- Uninstall HP printer software, and then remove the printer from your Devices list.
- Restart the PC
- Close all programs
- Reconnect the printer to the power supply and switch it on (if this does not happen automatically)
Wait until the initialization is finished! - Please note: WLAN has to be deactivated!
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads double-click on the EXE,
File name: HP_M1130_M1210_MFP_Full_Solution-v20180815-10158769_1.exe (240.8 MB) - Only USB, means wait until the installation asks to connect the printer/scanner.
- The installation was completed successfully, now you must ...
- Restart the System again
- Now the installation is complete.
Document error messages accurately, even better is to take a screenshot of it and upload here.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Still having issues. Went thru step 7 and error message came up "setup was unable to detect any printers". I don't know where my print screen key is as there is none and I do not know what F key combo works yet. Printer still say "initializing"

Try this:
- Turn on the printer.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue. Or not .......
- Disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the printer. If your printer has a network or wireless connection, leave it connected.
- Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet or power strip.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Note: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to a wall outlet. - Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period.
The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move. - Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door.
- If you receive a prompt to print a calibration page, do so.
- If you disconnected the USB cable, reconnect it to the rear of the printer.
- Try to print.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

No, nothing changed. Once powered on, the machine hums and then is stuck on "initializing". Previously, when it worked, it went thru several initializing processes and movements until it said ready on the tiny screen. Now it just comes on once and sticks at "initializing" and does not advance further. Apparently, it needs to be reset somehow to finish initializing and be ready to print, copy & fax which it now does neither.
The windows laptop can't even detect it so the printer is not finishing its initializing to be seen. Any other ideas?

Hi community!
If you need to install this printer model (Laserjet M1212nf MFP ) in Windows 11, you can install it using your computer's built-in driver. All the information is in the following post:
HP printer setup (Windows built-in driver)
