OK, I would need a link to that app, considering that aside from the HP Smart app, there's so many apps on that store that are HP apps, and I don't know which one to actually go for. The one that's on my phone isn't listed on the store at all, at least not on face, and there's a crap ton of apps on there that are listed as HP apps. So I would need a link direct to the exact app that I need to download. Also on the store, even though it's no longer installed (even though I have a 3rd party program that COMPLETELY uninstalls different programs, the HP Smart app will NOT show up on that program, so I have to use the Windows 11 OS uninstall program which I know leaves behind things and doesn't completely uninstall the program), it lists it as owned even though it's uninstalled on my computer. So yeah, need a direct link to it

Hi @Time2643,

Thanks for your response.

I understand the confusion  the Microsoft Store does list multiple HP apps, and it can be tricky to identify the correct one.

The official app you’ll want to install is HP App, and HP provides a direct support page to guide you through downloading and installing it.

Here’s the link you can use:  Unable to download and install the HP app - Click here

That page walks you through:

How to locate the HP app .

Steps to properly install or reinstall it.

Since you mentioned uninstalling, note that Windows’ built-in uninstall process may leave behind residual files. The guide also covers how to ensure a clean reinstall so the app functions correctly.

I hope this helps.

OK, I was able to download the HP program for my computer, however now even though I got my printer on there, I'm literally at a standstill now because there's nothing else I can do. There's no print options or anything, it's just a picture of my printer with one ad shown below and then a bunch of information with a help option, and that's it. Nothing about printing or scanning or anything like that at all

Hi @Time2643,

Thanks for your response.

I understand how  it must feel to have your printer connected but not see any clear options to actually use it.

Check the HP Software Installed The program you downloaded may only be the HP Smart app, which shows your printer status and account information. Printing and scanning options should appear in the main dashboard. If they don’t, it usually means the setup isn’t fully complete.

Complete Printer Setup In the HP Smart app, look for a button or banner that says “Set Up” or “Finish Setup.” Sometimes the printer shows up but isn’t fully configured until you complete this step.

Verify Drivers Make sure the full printer driver package is installed, not just the app. You can download the complete driver/software package for your specific printer model from the https://support.hp.com/ . This ensures your computer has the print and scan functions enabled.

Try Printing from Another Program Even if the HP Smart app doesn’t show print options, you should be able to print directly from applications like Word, Excel, or your browser. Go to File > Print and check if your HP printer appears in the list.

Check Connection Type If you’re using Wi-Fi, confirm that both your printer and computer are on the same network. If USB, make sure the cable is firmly connected.

If you’ve already done these steps and still don’t see print or scan options, let me know your printer model and whether you’re on Windows or macOS.

I hope this helps.

OK, so I can print from a different source, like if I open up a PDF, I can print from that program. However I can't scan anything. I have no options to scan anything at all. Also when it comes to hardwiring the printer to the computer, that option is out since we do NOT have a cord long enough to actually connect it. I have a desktop and NOT a laptop.

Also, this is what I see on the select screen, which is just my printer and nothing else

Hi  @Time2643,

Thanks for your response.

I completely understand  you’ve gone through the effort of installing the HP software, your printer shows up, but the scanning option is nowhere to be found.

First, it sounds like you’re able to print from other programs, which means the printer driver is at least partially working. The missing piece is the scan functionality, which usually requires the full feature driver package, not just the HP Smart app.

The Smart app alone sometimes only shows status andexactly like you described.

Here are a few steps that should help:

Complete setup in HP Smart: Open the app and check if there’s a banner or button saying “Set up” or “Finish setup.” Until that’s done, scan options won’t appear.

Install full drivers: Visit HP’s support website https://support.hp.com/ , enter your printer model, and download the “Full Feature Software and Drivers.” This package includes the scan utility.

Use Windows Scan app: On Windows, you can also try the built-in “Windows Scan” app from the Microsoft Store. If the drivers are installed correctly, your HP printer should appear there.

Check Wi-Fi connection: Since you can’t use USB, make sure both your desktop and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network. If they’re on different networks (like guest vs. main), scanning won’t work.

You’ve already done the hard part by getting printing to work scanning is usually just one more driver or setup step away.

I hope this helps.

OK, so I literally CAN NOT finish the setup without the location services being turned on, and that's something that I literally CAN NOT do at all. I get to that point in the setup and it keeps asking me to turn on something that I can't turn on, which is where the whole thing started in the first place. So in order for me to use the scan feature, it requires me to finish the setup, and for me to finish the setup, it requires me to have the location services turned on, and I don't have the ability to turn on location services, in which case the setup CAN NOT be finished. So that's basically where we stand currently right now.

Hi @Time2643,

Thanks for your response.

I understand how  this must feel.  The setup process for HP devices that require scanning often depends on location services being enabled, since the app uses that to detect nearby devices.

If you’re unable to turn on location services at all, here are some steps you can try to move forward:

01.Verify Device Settings

Make sure location services are available and not restricted by system policies.

Go to Settings → Privacy → Location

Check if Location services toggle is visible

If greyed out, confirm if your device is managed by an organization (work/school) that restricts this setting

02.Check App Permissions

The HP Smart app requires permission to access location services.

Go to Settings → Apps → HP Smart → Permissions

Ensure Location permission is enabled

If unavailable, reinstall the app after enabling location services

03.Use Manual Setup Option

If location services cannot be enabled, try adding the printer manually.

Open HP Smart → Add Printer → Enter IP Address

Find your printer’s IP address on its control panel or network settings

Enter the IP address manually to connect without location services

I hope this helps.

OK, I'm thinking you missed the other screenshots that were posted up earlier. I literally CAN NOT turn location services on. That is COMPLETELY faded out for me, I can't add to it or take away from it at all. Meaning that if I wanted to add the printer to it, the main button would have to be not faded so I can turn it on. However when I upgraded my computer's OS from 10 to 11, that option faded out and said that I needed admin permission (some how I was no longer the admin of my own computer any more, which literally does NOT make any sense). I don't know how to change that, and I did message Microsoft about that, but had not heard back from them on that at all. So as much as I would love to add anything to there. However I might be able to do number 3, but I don't know. Either way, the first two options are completely out for me. Also, my computer was a custom made job by a company that is no longer around (yeah, I need to get it badly upgraded, but that's neither here nor there at the current time). I will try number 3, and see what happens.

OK, so I was trying for the 3rd solution, and the HP program won't even allow me to enter the IP address of the printer to bypass the issue that we've got. It auto asks for HP to have access to location so that it can find the printer, and there's no option to by pass that at all
