F4480 All-In-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My printer was working fine then I did the latest windows 10 cumulative update and the printer and scanner features are not working. I tried it on a separate computer without the update and it worked. I then went through a lot of driver updates/reinstalls and even clean installed my entire computer. It started working again on my computer, but then as soon as the latest update went through, it would not recognize the printer's driver. In printers and scanners on windows 10, it states "driver error". And nothing will fix it. Will HP fix this? Because clearly this is a faulty update and nothing to do with the printer/scanner itself.

Hi @donutseed

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the printer driver issue.

Let's try these steps -

Download and install HP Print and Scan Doctor, it is a Windows tool to fix printer issues.

If the issue still persists, try re-installing the printer driver -

1. In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".

2. Look for HP Printer software.

3. Right-click to uninstall.

4. In the search box, type and open “Devices and printers”.

5. In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.

6. Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7. Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).

8. Click on the "Drivers" tab.

9. Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.

10. Select Ok.

11. Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.

12. Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.

13. Restart the computer.

14. Download and install the software and drivers from here for Windows 10 (64-bit).

15. Click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Unfortunately I have tried that already. I went through it again in the order you mentioned, just to be safe. But unfortunately it made no difference. I still cannot print or scan using this PC.

Does the copy works? If yes, try adding the printer using the IP address -

1.) Select “Start” and type “printers” in the search box.
2.) Choose “Printers & scanners“.
3.) Select “Add a printer or scanner“.
4.) Wait for the “The printer that I want isn’t listed” option to appear, then select it.
5.) Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname” , then select “Next“.
6.) Select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list.
7.) Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next“. To find the IP address of the printer, touch the Wi-Fi icon on the printer's control panel.
8.) Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, Select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next“.

Let me know.

HP Smart says that the printer has no network information. I also tried to find an IP address with the cmd prompt netstat feature. But I don't see any listed. I also went to devices and printers and checked in the port tab of the printer's properties and no IP address was listed. This isn't a wireless printer, are you sure it would have an IP address?

Try installing built-in driver - HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver

I just went through this method as well and it is not working. I have an update to this. On a separate computer, I just installed the latest windows 10 update and HP Smart automatically downloaded. And now on that computer, the printer was also working on before, is no longer printing or scanning. I have even uninstalled the latest windows 10 update and it still doesn't work though. This has to be an issue that needs to be fixed on HP's side of things with the HP Smart app causing this problem. It automatically downloads, so I have no way of stopping it from recreating the error, even when I did a clean installation on my PC, which allowed the printer and scanner to work right until hp smart redownloaded itself.

Can you post the picture of the error screen?

I posted the picture. I also wanted to note that I plugged the printer into my laptop just now, and I have not updated my laptop yet. And the scan feature worked. Which again confirms my suspicions that this is an issue of the recent updates.
