HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e Wide Format All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

Current firmware update slows 1st page out significantly. Update 6.23.3.71-202502132232 now takes nearly 60-seconds to print the 1st page. Previous update printed 1st page in < 10-seconds. Any suggestions or work arounds?

@Tom5JT, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Latest firmware for 9730e!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Let's try a few steps to troubleshoot this and see if we can improve the situation.

Power Cycle the Printer

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.

Wait for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.

Try printing again and check if there's any improvement.

Check Print Driver and Connection

If you're using a networked printer, try switching to a USB connection to see if there's any difference.

Ensure you're using the latest HP Universal Print Driver (UPD) or the recommended driver for your model.

If needed, reinstall the print driver by removing it completely and adding it back.

Reset to Default Settings (if applicable)

Some firmware updates may alter settings. Check if there’s an option to reset print settings to factory defaults.

Check for Background Processes

If the printer is connected to a print server or managed by a network admin, check if any queued jobs or security settings are slowing down processing.

A Few Questions to Dig Deeper:

Are all types of print jobs affected, or does it happen only with specific document types (e.g., PDFs, Word docs, or images)?

Is the delay only for the first page after the printer wakes from sleep, or does it persist for every first page of a new print job?

Are multiple users experiencing this issue, or is it isolated to one system?

Let me know what you find after trying these steps. Happy to assist further!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I have also noticed this issue since my printer has updated. I tried to downgrade the firmware but I am getting a security error when trying to downgrade to 6.23.2.15, even though it's listed as their latest version on the support site.

Has anyone figured out a fix for this yet? None of the suggestions have helped.

I understand how frustrating it must be to experience delays after the firmware update, and I appreciate you both taking the time to troubleshoot the issue.

Currently, HP does not support downgrading firmware once an update has been installed. Newer firmware versions often come with security enhancements that prevent rolling back to older versions to ensure device integrity and protection against vulnerabilities. This is why you're seeing a security error when attempting to revert to 6.23.2.15.
