HP Envy 4507 Serial number [edited]
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

On my Macbook pro I have accessed Keychain access, clicked Local Items and Passwords, but can find no reference to the printer or its network.  Is the password likely to be specific to the printer network, or could it be  a password used elsewhere?  Many thanks, Tony.

Hi! @Martello123, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!

I understand you have issues setting up your printer wirelessly.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Do you need the wireless direct password or the router password?

Have you replaced the router recently?

Please try the steps recommended below to find the SSID.

1. Press the Wireless button to access the Wireless Status
menu.
2. Press the button next to Settings to access the Wireless
Settings menu.
3. Select Print Report, and then select Configuration Page
4. Once you print the configuration page it should contain the SSID in it.

Keychain is the password management system used in Mac OS. If you change your password, you will also need to change the Keychain password, since it doesn’t update automatically. If the password saved in the keychain isn’t up-to-date, you will not be able to print or access shared drives.

Step 1:

Go to the Finder’s Go menu and choose Utilities

Keychain 001

Step 2:
Select Keychain Access

Keychain 003

Step 3:
Select the Login Keychain then select the “network password” or “internet password” for the printers and/or shares.

Keychain 006

Step 4:
Hold down the “control” key and click the keychain entry. Select Delete.

Keychain 008

Step 5:
Finally, add your new password to the Keychain:

Now, access your network resource (printer or share) and re-enter your username and password when prompted.

Also, To connect wirelessly to the printer without a router try the steps recommended below.

1. From the Home screen on the printer display, select Wireless Direct.

2. In the Wireless Direct menu, select Wireless Direct, and then press OK.

3. Using the buttons to the right, select On without Security, and then press OK. TIP: If you would like to use HP wireless direct with greater security and if the computer or mobile device supports WPA2 encryption, select the option that will enable security. With security enabled, only users with the password can connect wirelessly to the printer. Without enabling security, anyone with a wireless device within the wireless range of the printer can connect to the printer.

4. Press the button next to Display Name to display the wireless direct name.

5. If you have enabled security, press the button next to Display Password to display the wireless direct password.

Most printers with a touch or text navigation control panel have a Wireless Setup Wizard tool available through the Setup, Network, or Wireless menu. Use the guided tool to select your network name and enter the password to connect the printer to your network.

If the network name (SSID) or password is hidden, manually type them on the printer to connect. Network names and passwords are case-sensitive.

  1. Gather the following items:

    • Network name (SSID)

    • Network security password (WEP key or WPA passphrase)

    • A computer that is connected to your wireless network

  2. Disconnect any USB or Ethernet cables from the printer.

  3. On the printer control panel, select the Setup, Network, or Wireless menu.

  4. Select Wireless Setup Wizard, then follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your network.
