HP has done it to me also. Locked my printer after it passed the service date. Has anyone been successful reinstalling the original firmware? Does anyone have the original  .Bdl you can send me? Am I just hosed?

Hi @Chiselbrook,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I hear your concern about  how  it must feel to have your printer suddenly stop working after the service date.

Could you please confirm what happens when you try to print  for example, do you see an error message on the printer’s display or in the HP Smart app?

Here are a few steps you can try :

  1. Power reset: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and restart.
  2. Firmware check: Open HP Smart or the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) to see if a firmware update is available. Sometimes reinstalling or rolling back isn’t possible, but checking ensures you’re on the latest supported version.
  3. Network reset: If the printer is locked out of cloud services, resetting the wireless settings and reconnecting can help.
  4. Restore defaults: From the printer’s control panel, you can reset to factory defaults, which may clear any lockout issues.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
