I was successfully using after market print cartridges in my printer but after a firmware update they quit working. I was not aware that the cartridges were the problem so in trouble shooting the problem, I tried to reset the printer. Now the printer is locked up with the error “cartridge has failed - Magenta Ink”. I had to figure out how to manually move the print head to remove the old cartridges only to have the same error stay on the screen and he printer to remain locked. I tried again with old official HP cartridges with the same results. Needless to say, I’m not going to buy HP ink if I don’t have confidence that my printer will work again. I am hoping that HP comes to their senses and releases a fix to this problem. Warning the a print cartridge might be a counterfeit is on this but locking a customers purchased printer so the HP can increase their profit is another.
please send repair instructions and software downgrades so that I don’t need to warn everyone that I know about this scam.
Thanks,
Eric

Hi @Ejtheriot21,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
Most recent hp printers do not allow firmware downgrade. They have built-in code that checks the version of the download and will not accept any firmware that is earlier than the current version.
You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.
There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
