We got two of these printers. Both have the locking latch on left side missing. It almost looks like it's broken off.

Two images are included.

Interestingly I was servicing another HP laser printer (don't remember the exact model), recent model, and it had the same design of the toner tray - locking latch on right side only.

Can someone confirm if that's by design or a fault from manufacture?

Thank you

I do not have a 283 in the shop right now, but every other similar model such as the M477 only has a lock on one side. It is just to prevent the tray from flying open when you open the door. The door closing is what actually secures the tray in the proper printing position.

Bump.

Anybody?

Can someone look at their printer whether the locking latch is on both sides?

Thank you for the info.

I kind of suspected this to be the case as I've seen another HP printer with the same design of the tray.
