Hi guys,

I purchased an HP DeskJet 8028e printer back in 2022 and have been using their ink delivery subscription service. I recently canceled my subscription and now want to switch to third-party ink, but HP doesn't allow that with the current firmware.

I'm looking to downgrade the firmware to bypass this restriction. Has anyone done this with this particular model? If so, could you share your experience or point me to a link where I can find the older firmware?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi @Edekamede

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Downgrading firmware on HP printers, including the DeskJet 8028e, is generally not supported by HP.

The company designs firmware updates to enhance functionality and security, and these updates often include measures to ensure compatibility with HP-branded cartridges. As a result, older firmware versions are not officially provided or supported by HP.

While some third-party websites may offer older firmware versions, downloading and installing firmware from unofficial sources carries risks, such as voiding your warranty, introducing security vulnerabilities, or damaging your printer. It's important to proceed with caution and consider the potential consequences.

I see that you have an issue using non-HP ink cartridges on your printer.

Please refer to the below links for more information related to your issue.

If you are using generic or non-HP ink cartridges and the above links do not help. You will have to contact the generic ink cartridge manufacturer to assist you further with it, or you will have to use genuine HP ink cartridges to resume printing.
