HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

This is on a LaserJet M1212nf MFP.

While installing the drivers on a Windows 11 laptop, it appears the installer application tried to update the firmware on the printer itself and that process failed for some reason.

The printer now is stuck in a boot loop where on the LCD it says "Genuine HP installed" for about five seconds, then it flashes "Initializing..." for about one second, then it appears that the printer reboots itself, starting the process over again indefinitely.

Connecting the printer to the laptop using a USB cable, the firmware updater (running on the Windows 11 laptop) cannot find the printer, and each time the printer reboots (see above) it causes the Device Manager in Windows to refresh, but a printer never shows up in the device tree.

Is there a reset sequence that can be performed or a series of button presses while the device is booting that can interrupt this loop?

Thanks for the response!

When I do that it gives me the "Permanent storage init." message and then prompts me to select a language and country. The printer then reboots (as that post says it will) but when it comes back it seems to still be stuck in the boot loop. The LCD displays "Initializing..." but no longer displays the "Genuine HP installed" message (as in my original post).

Is there another reinitialization process that can be performed?

Do you use this printer for receiving faxes?

No, I do not use the fax function, but I do use scanning and copying.

Experimenting more the behavior seems to be different, possibly indicating progress?

After performing the reset procedure (holding the right arrow and cancel button while power cycling) it gives me the Language prompt and the device seems to be visible for a couple of seconds in Windows 10 via USB. The printer then reboots and the device goes away in Windows and the device is listed as "Offline."

When it reboots itself, it comes back to the prompt that asks me to select a language. Hitting the arrow keys to try to keep the printer from rebooting doesn't seem to work (the selected language changes but it doesn't prevent the printer from rebooting).

Is there anything else I can try? Another reset procedure now that the behavior is slightly different from my last post?

When I launch the "HP Toolbox" app in Windows 10 it reports the printer as being online very briefly, for the three or four seconds that the language prompt is displayed on the LCD on the printer itself. Unfortunately it's not online long enough for me to click on the icon in "HP Toolbox" and run any further diagnostics.

In "HP Toolbox" it shows the printer as in the "Initializing" state for the few seconds that it is connected.
