HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We have two M1212nf MFP printers, one on each of two PC's.  A week ago the printer on wife's PC all of a sudden quit printing.  Tried to reinstall driver to no avail.  One error message I got was "Active Directory Domain Services is Currently Unavailable."   All my updates are current except for the printer driver now.  I'm so far into this problem I don't know if I made things worse or just haven't found the right fix.  My printer was working so I thought (perhaps incorrectly) if I swapped it out for my wife's I could see if we had a printer problem or a PC problem.  Wife's printer didn't print on my PC nor could I install latest driver (HP_M1130_M1210_MFP_FULL_SOLUTION).  i gave up on trying to fix wife's printer as when I reconnected my printer it wouldn't print.  Now I'm trying to get it going.

Currently  neither of our priters work.  The %temp% file/folder has no HP files.  "printui.exe /s"  has no HP drivers.  Device Manager shows no HP printers in either Print Queues or Printers.  Settings show "HP Laserjet Professional M1212nf MFP (Device is not available).  Control Panel Devices & Printers shows the printer grayed out.

When I  try to install the drivers be it downloaded or from the original CD (Which Scan Doctor suggested) the installer finds the printer and says it connects,  but the instalation just keeps running and never finishes.  I've unplugged the printer, turned it off and on when plugged in, disconnected the print cable and reconnected when asked.  Nothing seems to work.

Thank you very much for any suggestions?

Thanks for your response.  I understand I may have firmware issues,  but my main problem is I can't install or update my printer drivers.  My PC Control Panel, Devices & Printers shows my printer, but it is grayed out.  Settings, Printers & Scanners shows my printer, but says "driver is unavailable.

My issue is I can't get to my printer to update firmware because the printer driver won't install. and my PC doesn't connect to the printer.  When I try to install from the HP Website for drivers, the download for M1212nf tries to install.  I get as far as "connect my printer" and then the installation never completes..  If I could get the printer to connect so the PC sees it and can connect to it, then I for sure would follow your advice and update the firmware.
