Microsoft Windows 11

Good morning lovely humans,

I am helping my local pottery teacher install her printer onto her new laptop.

Setup: laptop is brand new 64bit Win 11, 8gb ram

Printer is HP laserjet 200 color MFP M276 PCL 6 driver version 61.117.1.15301

Printer is connected via ethernet to router and speeds are showing as 150mbps

Printer drivers fresh install from the HP site

Windows system updates are up to date

USB cable (see below) is not an issue

Problem- printer connects and prints perfectly, the scanner runs into an error when I launch the HP scanner icon (the one that comes with the driver pack).

Things I have tried:

1- uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling- failed scan

2- uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling the printer via the USB- failed scan.

3- Trying to scan via going to control panel and right clicking on the printer icon but no scan option appears

4- searching the HP web boards to no avail.

5- HP printer and scanner doc- says no known issue

now here is the weird bit (possibly a clue)

6- uninstalling and launching the HP smart ap and installing the printer (both usb and wireless printer show) I click on wireless printer (shows online and ready (as we want the scanner to be wireless)) yet the wizard says please power on printer.

7- drink coffee and contemplate throwing it out of the window.... BOFH style

8- use the HP network utility to check for issues- this crashes-

9- repeat steps 8 3 times (methodical- can you tell?)

10- brainwave- check firmware- this was 2015- so managed to upgrade this to 2019 (latest showing on the HP site) and repeated steps 1 through 9. Again, fails.

11- ask you lovely folks.
