HP LaserJet MFP M140w Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought the printer with instant ink. A few months after I upgraded to mesh router set up, the printer stopped making connectivity with HP. Because of that dropped connectivity, the spy ware that instant ink uses to check the validity of the toner stopped working. The spy ware then disabled my printer  and gave me and exclamation mark below the Wi-Fi light.  Error message on my HP Smart log - printer lost internet connectivity.  I can makeshift a  work around if I walk the printer around the house and get close to the main router. If I then return to the mesh location the printer disables again

HP either needs to (1) upgrade printer firmware to work with a mesh router set up or (2) stop permitting the spy ware to disable the printer for occasional dropped internet check in. Other wise I spent 200 for a brick

Hi @johnf54,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I am afraid, that HP printers do not work with router extenders/ mesh routers>> it has to be directly connected to the router.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Phone support told me about the mesh issue. Hoped to escalate via online support to induce HP to fix the problem. This reply indicates that HP has no intention to deliver a product that works with what is becoming a standard home internet protocol. Please confirm my interpretation

If so I will dispose of the product, cancel my subscription, and do business in the future with vendor that cares about their customers, not solely about preserving subscription revenue

Hi @johnf54,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you've encountered a frustrating issue with the HP MFP 140w printer not being compatible with your mesh router setup and the Instant Ink subscription.  We do not intend to let you down. I will surely help you. Looks like you are connected to 5GHz frequency.

May I know if the router is configured to 2.4 or 5 Ghz?

Remember the printer will only work with 2.4 Ghz. Could you please try connecting with 2.4 ghz? That will help with the connectivity.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
