Hi @uservyt,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Yes, you can reset the admin password on your HP LaserJet Tank MFP 2604sdw — but it depends on whether Settings Protection is enabled and if the printer is already claimed to an HP account (used with HP Smart).
Here’s how to proceed:
Method 1: Restore Factory Defaults (Resets Admin Password Too)
⚠️ This will reset all settings: Wi-Fi, network, admin password, and HP account linkage.
Useful if you don’t remember the password and the printer isn’t enrolled in HP+ or claimed to another account.
🔧 Steps:
- On the printer control panel:
- Tap the gear icon (⚙️) or go to Settings.
- Scroll to "Service" or "Printer Maintenance" (wording may vary slightly).
- Select "Restore Defaults" or "Restore Factory Defaults".
- Confirm when prompted.
Your printer will restart. After this:
- The admin password will be cleared.
- You can reconfigure it via HP Smart or the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
Method 2: Reset Password via Embedded Web Server (If Not Locked)
If you can access the printer’s IP address:
- Print a network configuration page from the control panel (usually under Settings > Reports > Network Report).
- Open a web browser and go to the IP address shown (e.g., http://192.168.1.123).
- Go to the Settings/Security tab.
- Look for Administrator Settings > Reset or Change Password.
⚠️ This only works if the admin interface is not password-locked.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
