Hello, My printer (MFP M283) just recently started going to sleep and then after about 10 seconds it wakes back up. I had to unplug it for a couple of minutes this morning to “reset” it just to get it to turn on maybe just a coincidence I don’t know. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi @BLB76,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're experiencing an issue with your HP MFP M283 printer waking up from sleep mode too quickly or not responding properly. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

  • Check Power Source: Make sure the printer is plugged into a stable power source and that there are no loose connections. An unstable power supply can sometimes cause issues like this.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer on the HP support website. Firmware updates often include bug fixes and performance improvements.
  • Check Sleep Settings: Access the printer's settings menu and review the sleep settings. You may want to adjust the sleep timer to a longer duration if it's set to a very short time. You can usually access these settings through the printer's control panel or the web interface.
  • Reset Network Settings: If the printer is connected to a network, try resetting the network settings and reconnecting it to your network. Sometimes network issues can cause the printer to wake up unexpectedly.
  • Check for Software Conflicts: Ensure that there are no conflicting software applications or print jobs causing the printer to wake up. Cancel any pending print jobs and close unnecessary applications on your computer.
  • Check for Physical Obstructions: Inspect the printer for any physical obstructions, such as pieces of paper stuck in the paper path, which might be triggering the printer to wake up.
  • Check for Errors or Alerts: Look for any error messages or alerts on the printer's display panel. These can provide valuable information about what might be causing the issue.
  • Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on the printer. Be aware that this will reset all settings to their default values, so make sure you have any necessary configuration details on hand before doing this.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
