I have tried a number of actions from the net and nothing works. The screen flashes when the printer is turned on and then it remains blank. The mechanics are fine as it prints some coloured lines when I open and close the door 3 or 4 times.

Are you able to still print from a computer? If not, then likely the formatter is bad. If the printer still process print jobs from your computer then either the control panel or the control panel cable is bad. The test you have done with opening and closing the door bypasses the formatter and only tells you the base engine is working.

Thank you for your reply. No, I can't priint from my computer. In fact, since the control panel went blank, my computer says the printer is offline and the HP Printer Assistant says my printer is turned off (when it is on).

Hi Paul, It wasn't solved on here, so I rang the help line (which I hate as I'm an introvert). Anyway, the nice Filipino lady ran me though two tests I hadn't done before whcih didn't work, so I'm getting a new control panel, under warrenty for me. There are some tips for fixing the control panel if you Google them, and on HP itself, but none worked for me. Unfortunately, the ribon is hard wired into the panel, so there will be some work to replace it. There is a You Tube video for this and is very detailed and easy to follow. The panels can be bought off eBay for around USD70 plus postage. In the end, still cheaper than a toner cartridge and is just one of those annoyning repair jobs that shouldn't be neccessary. I don't think anyone is getting rich off replacement panels though, which makes me feel a bit better about it. lol All the best Paul
