Color Laserjet MFP M277dw
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Goodmorning.

I have a HP M277dw with automatic duplex unit installed.

With Linux the auto-duplex unit is detected and correctly used.

In Windows 7 64 Bit the duplex unit is not detected, and the driver show me only manual duplex option.

The printer is a B3Q11A model.

The following panel is "Printer Preferences" in Italian language.

The red arrow show the manual duplex setup.

How can I force the auto-duplex unit feature?

Best regards,

  MZ

The 'automatic discovery' feature used by some drivers on installation (or update) doesn't always work; ensure that the driver knows that a duplex unit is present on the printer (assuming that one is present):

  • For the printer instance in question, bring up the Printer properties dialogue.
  • Select the Device settings tab.
  • Ensure that the duplex unit is set to Installed rather than Not installed.

You'll probably need to be logged in with administrator credentials in order to change the device settings.

Even after doing that, it may be that the setting reverts occasionally - I'm not sure why, but the Installable Options section of the Device Settings tab in the Printer Properties dialogue (where you have previously set the Duplex unit to Installed) may also have an Automatic  Configuration option (I don't have access to a LaserJet M277dw to check), which may be defaulted to On.

Such automatic configuration doesn't always appear to work successfully (I've no idea why), so try changing the setting to Off.
