I have not been able to configure my MFP3301 to scan to a network folder.  The PIN located inside the printer is not accepted, using the HP "Smart" software does not work either.  I have restored and reset factory settings at least three times to no avail.  Even your website here has not been useful to populate the device I'm inquiring about despite being provided with the model number.  This is the most frustrating experience I've ever had with a product.  Please assist.

I understand how frustrating this is, especially after multiple resets and attempts. The HP LaserJet Pro MFP 3301 series uses Secure PIN and SMB credentials for Scan-to-Network-Folder, and the error you’re seeing usually means the printer cannot validate the folder path or credentials, not the PIN itself.

Step 1: Confirm Network Folder Setup

  • The folder must be shared on your Windows 10 PC with read/write permissions.
  • Right-click the folder → Properties > Sharing > Advanced Sharing → enable Share this folder.
  • Under Permissions, allow Read/Write for the user account you’ll use.


Step 2: Use Correct Credentials

  • The printer does not use the PIN inside the printer for SMB authentication.
  • It needs: 
    • Folder Path: \\ComputerName\SharedFolder
    • Username: Windows account name (or domain\username if on a domain)
    • Password: Windows account password (must not be blank)


Step 3: Configure via Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  1. Find the printer’s IP: 
    • On printer: Setup > Reports > Network Configuration Page.
  2. Enter the IP in your browser to open EWS.
  3. Go to Scan > Scan to Network Folder Setup.
  4. Add a new folder: 
    • Enter Folder Path, Username, and Password.
    • Test the connection before saving.


Step 4: Enable SMB v1 or v2

  • Windows 10 often disables SMB v1 by default.
  • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on/off.
  • Ensure SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support is enabled (or use SMB v2 if supported by the printer).


Step 5: Firewall & Network Checks

  • Allow the printer through Windows Firewall.
  • Ensure both devices are on the same subnet.

The folder in question is on a QNAP NAS, shared publicly with no login credentials required.  I have tried dozens of times to adjust the settings in the MFP EWS using the printer PIN but it is not accepted by the machine, it keeps looping me back to the settings menu.
