I have an HP Laserjet Pro MFP M225dw wirelessly connected to a MacBook Pro running Mac OS Sonoma 14.6.  Cannot print any files from this computer.  I can print them from iPhones, iPads and an older iMac.  Worked with Apple and they believe the issues in an expired encryption credentials.  Any ideas appreciated since when trying to get HP Support I get stuck because it says my serial number is invalid.  It is the one stamped on my printer.

Hi @Hobart1725,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

If your HP LaserJet printer is no longer printing from your MacBook Pro running macOS Sonoma 14.6 but works with other devices, and you suspect it may be related to expired encryption credentials, here are some steps to resolve the issue:

1. Reset Your Printer's Network Connection

  • Reconnect to Wi-Fi:
    • Access your printer’s control panel and navigate to the network settings. Disconnect it from the Wi-Fi network and then reconnect it.
  • Ensure Correct Network:
    • Make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your MacBook Pro.

2. Forget and Reconnect to Wi-Fi on Mac

  • Forget Network:
    • Go to System Settings > Network > Wi-Fi, click on the i icon next to your network name, and select Forget This Network.
  • Reconnect:
    • Reconnect to the Wi-Fi network and enter the password.

3. Update Printer Firmware

  • Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Visit the HP support website and look for any firmware updates for your printer model. Follow the instructions to update the firmware if available.

4. Remove and Re-add Printer on Mac

  • Delete the Printer:
    • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, select your HP LaserJet and click the - button to remove it.
  • Re-add the Printer:
    • Click the + button, select your printer from the list, and add it again. Make sure to select any relevant drivers or options that appear.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Hobart1725,

Please find the next steps below.

5. Use AirPrint

  • If your printer supports AirPrint, ensure you select the AirPrint driver when adding the printer.
  • Print Test:
    • Try printing a test page using AirPrint to see if the issue persists.

6. Reset Printing System

  • Reset the Printing System:
    • In System Settings > Printers & Scanners, right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and choose Reset printing system. This will remove all printers and reset the printing settings.
  • Reboot your Mac and Printer:
    • Restart both your Mac and the printer after resetting.

7. Check for Expired Encryption Credentials

  • Update Wireless Security Settings:
    • Log into your router's admin interface and check the wireless security settings (WPA2/WPA3). If you recently changed your Wi-Fi password, update it on your printer as well.
  • Check Printer Network Security:
    • Some HP printers have security settings that may require reconfiguration. Check the printer’s settings for anything related to encryption or security and reset them if needed.

8. Verify macOS Firewall Settings

  • Check Firewall:
    • Go to System Settings > Network > Firewall and ensure that it’s not blocking your printer. Temporarily disable the firewall to test if it resolves the issue.

9. Check Printer and Network Configuration

  • Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:
  • Check IP Address:
    • Make sure the printer has a valid IP address on the network. You can usually find this in the printer’s settings or network configuration page.

If the issue persists after trying the above steps, contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
