Recently moved to Mac Air.  Used Mac OS for years.  Pages has since updated.  I can no longer choose my full print options within Pages document, eg. double sided, print in colour.  Printer is now only printing Pages documents in black and white.  If I am in Pages and then go into print preview then the full Print options are made available.  This is a bizaar extra step.  Its as if HP print option is choosing to automatically detect a basic pages document as a pdf file plus limit printer functions.  Very strange.  Does not happen when using Numbers.  This prints exactly as per all the formatting, including colour text and allows you to decide page & paper set up.  Really weird that the full functions seem to have disappeared for Pages document printing.  Driving me nuts.

Hi @DappyDuck

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details. I acknowledge the situation you are experiencing with Pages on macOS where the full print options are not directly available, and colour printing is limited unless you move into print preview.

Let’s go through specific steps to ensure your printer settings are correctly applied when printing from Pages:

Open HP App

  • Ensure you have the latest HP App installed. This replaces HP Smart and provides the most updated functionality for macOS printing.

Check Printer Preferences in HP App

  • Launch the HP App.
  • Select your printer from the home screen.
  • Go to SettingsPrint Preferences.
  • Confirm that Colour Printing and Duplex (Double‑Sided) options are enabled.

Verify Default Print Settings in macOS

  • On your Mac, open System SettingsPrinters & Scanners.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Click Options & SuppliesDriver.
  • Ensure the driver is set to HP and not AirPrint. AirPrint may restrict advanced features.

Print from Pages with HP Options

  • In Pages, select FilePrint.
  • At the bottom of the print dialog, click Show Details.
  • From the drop‑down menu, choose your HP printer’s specific options (e.g., Layout, Colour, Duplex).
  • Confirm that colour and duplex settings are selected before printing.

Test with Another Document

  • Create a new Pages document with coloured text.
  • Print using the above steps to confirm the settings are applied.
  • If successful, this ensures the HP driver and HP App are managing the print job correctly.

By following these steps, you should be able to restore full print functionality directly from Pages without needing the extra preview step.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thanks for the detailed response.  I did try a lot of what you mentioned.

When setting up the printer, Apple automatically finds Inspire 2000e AIR driver.  So I switched out this for a different HP Printer driver 4500 e-ALL-in-One v 3.5.0. and it seems to work.

Thanks a lot for your help.
