Ink Advantage 2374
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

I cannot get my Macbook Air (Big Sur) to detect my new HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2374. I have tried the HP app and it never finds any printer (have changed the USB cable 3 times).

I also tried installing it through the OSX system and while it installed, no matter what I do it will never print: sends the data to printer, printer power light starts to flash, but the printer remains idle (see photo).

I was able to get the printer to scan in both black and white and color. But I cannot get it to print on any computer I have (2 Macbook Air + 1 Windows machine).

Please help!!!!!

@Daniel149, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

According to the printer specifications, this model printer is not Airprint compatible and is not compatible with the HP Smart app too.

Check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Make sure the cable is directly connected between the Mac and the printer.

The use of a USB hub is not recommended. Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac.

Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the Mac? If yes, disable the same for time being.

You may check this in System Information > Applications.

  • Check if the printer is getting recognized by your Mac:
  1. From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.
  2. Click System Report.
  3. Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB.

USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus. The printer should be under the USB 2.0 Bus

The printer driver can be downloaded from the HP Support site via HP Easy Start. Click here

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks Kumar, I mentioned the HP Smart App because the printer came with a manual that told me to use it. I appreciate your response, and it makes perfect and logical sense to me. However, I am today returning the device and purchasing one with wifi capabilities.

Thanks heaps though.
