Nothing happened when I clicked on the link.

I downloaded (not in any remembered order): 

1. HP printer essentials   2. HP Easy Start   3. HP Firmware Updater.

Still could not print, until  I clicked on my screen's upper left hand corner Black Apple logo,  to System Preferences , to Printers and Scanners.

I then deleted my printer and all other printers listed. 

I then searched for a printer and then accepted my printer.   My same Printer then worked as quickly as ever!

Still had a couple of  warning messages coming up, until I followed Lyoungblood's  recommendation. 

Now, no more warning messages either.

I'm using Chrome, and it won't download the FTP link. It is blocking it. Did you use Safari, or firefox?

Last resort.  Tried everything else and nothing works.  Now this download does not work either. Gets 3/4 through and states it is unable to complete - unknown error.  Not much more frustrating than having this kind of thing happen and spending a good part of the day messing with it (or having it mess with you!).
